About the role
The Compliance Department plays a crucial role in ensuring that Apus’ products and processes align with regulatory standards. The team possesses exceptional problem-solving skills and excels in conducting tests within a fully digital environment.
We are looking for a Payments Compliance Manager who possesses a clear understanding of the measures required to ensure our consumer protection practice remains in compliance. If you are excited about establishing a Compliance Department from scratch and working with innovative product offerings, you will realize your biggest potential in this role. In more specific terms, we require an individual who will assume the responsibility of providing guidance to our business regarding compliance requirements and the necessary controls. It’s important to note that this role is highly practical and hands-on in nature.
Your roles & responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and execute AML/CTF policies and rulebooks/handbooks, to ensure that the company conducts its business in a regulatory-compliant environment
- Ensure effective implementation of new or changing Compliance/AML/CTF requirements initiated by the regulatory (e.g., FINTRAC, Bank of Canada, etc.), or as required by legislation or regulators by liaising and coordinating efforts with internal departments
- Maintain and monitor the effectiveness of the company’s Compliance/AML programs and standards by developing and implementing compliance testing programs, reviewing internal controls to determine areas of improvement, identifying gaps, and ensuring that these are properly addressed
- Manage the operation of AML Regulatory Compliance Management Framework (RCM) and maintain the regulatory/guidance inventory up to date. Identifying/maintaining up-to-date reference and source materials for AML legislation and ensuring access to relevant lines of business
- Manage day-to-day AML/CTF-related operations, including customer screening and onboarding
- Advising business on compliance requirements by extending guidance and support to sales and operations to help them meet regulatory requirements and following internal policies and procedures
- Develop and maintain AML/ATF training material and resources. Working with the HR department to develop effective compliance training programs, including appropriate compliance training material for new employees and ongoing training for all employees, managers, and the board of directors
- Provide constructive input regarding new products and initiatives from a regulatory perspective, including changes to the AML legislation, regulations, and guidelines, and make amendments to policies, processes, and programs as required
- Ensure reporting obligations (including audit requirements) to regulators (e.g., FINTRAC) are accurately completed and in a timely manner as well as assist regulators in making available key information to them as required
- Provide periodic updates to the Senior Management regarding the operation of AML/CTF programs, regulatory compliance reports (e.g., areas for improvement) on a quarterly basis
- Plan and execute the company’s compliance roadmap with Senior Management
Qualifications & Requirements
- 5+ years of regulatory/compliance experience in a heavily regulated financial services industry/regulator/government department, involving internal/external audit and risk management
- Prior experience as a Head of Compliance/Compliance Officer, MLRO, or a similar role
- Recognized professional ACAMS certifications
- Deep knowledge and understanding of Compliance/AML/CTF methodologies and programs as well as regulatory risk management
- Deep knowledge of federal and provincial legislation in relation to cross-border payments and remittances, credit/prepaid cards, consumer lending, consumer protection, etc.
- Experience dealing with regulators such as FINTRAC, Bank of Canada, etc.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
- Advanced analytical, research, and investigative skills (e.g., researching laws/regulations
- Ability to take ownership and lead projects with a proactive approach and able to independently drive initiatives to conclusions
- Effective leadership qualities and motivated self-starter
Nice to have
- Knowledge, understanding, and experience of payment networks such as SWIFT, correspondent banking, AMEX, MasterCard, Visa, Interac (Canada), etc.
- Knowledge of the Retail Payments Activity Act/Regulations

We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer, who is proactive in learning new skills and has the drive to step out of his / her comfort zones and experiment with new methods to solve problems. There will be many opportunities to explore new tech stacks and to work on advanced technologies.
Your roles & responsibilities
- Hands-on integration of the front-end and backend aspects of the application
- Write maintainable, testable, and performant software in creating the entire platform
- Build reusable code and libraries for future use
- Participate in code review and performing extensive testing to ensure high-quality software
- Implement services using security mechanisms, such as OAuth, Single Sign On, etc.
- Implement data security processes and methods
- Clearly document the artifacts to ensure proper knowledge transfer within the team
